The 12th April saw us back at one of our favourite Cumbrian wedding venues catering for the gorgeous bride Rebecca and lucky groom, Steve.
Rebecca and Steve came to us back in January 2016 looking for a relaxed, fun menu that would reflect their relaxed and fun day at Silverholme and of course we delivered. The happy couple opted for a selection of our handmade canapes followed by a classic 3 course wedding breakfast…with a spin.
Canapes were served out on the lawn of Silverholme, overlooking Lake Windermere, in between family photographs being snapped by our long term friend James Jebson whilst being serenaded by the dulcet and edgy tones of Alex Birtwell on the decking of the grand marquee. The sun graced us with its presence and made an already stunning celebration even more beautiful. And as for fun…crazy golf! Who even thinks of these things?! It went down a storm with guests with many flooding in and out of the coach house all wanting to out do each other!
Heart shaped slates presented our Mini Yorkshire Puddings with Roast Beef and Horseradish Gravy closely followed by Deep Fried Quails Eggs on mini Black Pudding’s coated with Hollandaise Sauce. Our espresso cups housed a Mini Soup Shooter of Homemade Vegetable Soup and a favourite by many guests were the Hoisin Duck Wraps! All this talk of mini – the mini people were not forgotten either! Rebecca had specifically asked for canapes for the little people that were celebrating with them as they are just as important! They got a selection of their own canapes of a fat triple cooked chip with a bit of tommy k – who isn’t going to love that?! Followed by mini hot dogs! Almost makes you want to be a child again!
Alex led the entertainment right up to the point of inviting guests to sit down into the beautifully decorated marquee. It was clean, classic and yet had Rebecca (and Steve) written all over it. Personalised wine glasses with each guests name painstakingly hand stuck on with diamante’s to finish, colourful arrangements of flowers, table names giving a nod to the places around the lake district, a rather epic photo booth and a dance floor the children well and truly fell in love with. Topped off with a long table adorned with a grand cheese wedding cake and every kind of accompaniment you could wish to devour with it. Homemade pickles and chutneys, cheese twists, numerous amounts of crackers and enough cheese to feed 100 cheese craving party goers!
However it was Campbell & Rowley’s time to shine with a 3 course choice menu ready and waiting to feed the hungry wedding party!
To Start – Chicken Liver Pate with crostini breads or our Trio of Fishcakes with Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce saw the starters of the wedding breakfast well on their way to feeding up guests. Again – the little ones weren’t forgotten with their own starter of garlic bread to recharge their batteries after exploring every inch of the photo booth!
For Main….and the spin on things. Steve’s brother and MC for the day was handed a microphone…surely the speeches won’t be now? And sure enough they weren’t! A member of each table was asked to follow us into the kitchen where they were all donned with an apron and chef hat and were handed a chopping board and a whopping hunk of lamb to take back to their tables. Yes! Rebecca and Steve had chosen our ‘Host the Roast’ package much to the delight of the rest of their guests! The whooping and cheering of the wedding party as 6 newly appointed chefs strode back into the marquee and to their tables where bowls of steaming vegetables, mounds of roast potatoes and never ending jugs of gravy were being rapidly placed onto plates! It seemed to us that many of the new chefs were getting attached to their Campbell & Rowley apron, let alone the foot tall chef hat!
Roast dinner cleared away and it was onto speeches – some sincere and heart felt moments alongside uproars of laughter and all topped off with the guests having taken a sweep stake as to how long the speeches would last! These lot knew how to have fun!
And the fun didn’t stop there! Dessert was soon well on its way and was a tribute to Rebecca & Steve’s favourite sweet treats – Eton Mess, Millionaires Cheesecake and Lemon Sorbet! Not long after the last dessert was placed down one of our ‘staff members’ was put through her induction! In fact we had been hiding a couple of singing waiters in with our staff and Cassie knocked Nessun Dorma straight out of the park and got that party started! People were up dancing on their chairs and waving napkins in the air. Rebecca and Steve certainly knew how to throw a party!
It seemed like minutes passed before the all-important cake cutting (finally everyone could get their mitts on the cheese!) and first dance and the party carried on hard! Our pizza oven was fired up and the smells of freshly baked dough filled the Cumbrian air late into the night.
It was a pleasure to cater for such a gorgeous couple with a loving family surrounding them. So to Rebecca and Steve, thank you for choosing Campbell & Rowley and we all hope you have an amazing honeymoon and a very happy marriage.
